Mesothelioma is a cancer developing in various parts of body occurring due to prolonged exposure to the asbestos. The disease occurs after decades of constant exposure. It is a form of occupational hazard or found in the people living near the asbestos mines and industries. It is not easy to be diagnosed and can’t be recognized easily through symptoms alone because the signs and symptoms are common to many other ailments. Moreover, the mesothelioma is having various types and the symptoms vary according to the type.
Pleural mesothelioma is the commonest type of mesothelioma. It develops in the lining of the lungs and causes pain in chest, dyspneoa and difficult swallowing. Patient may complain of perspiration during sleep, hot flushes and vomiting of blood or blood in the sputum.
Mesothelioma may occur in the lining of abdomen. This form of mesothelioma is known as peritoneal mesothelioma. The symptoms are diarrhea and stools consisting of blood, severe abdominal pain, weight loss and peritonitis.
Heart tissue can also be affected by this form of malignant development. The heart lining or pericardium may become malignant. This is known as pericardial mesothelioma. Main symptoms are chest pain, arrhythmia, dyspneoa, fever and cyanosis. This is rare type of mesothelioma.
